QLD Floods Jan 18, 2011
For 8 days last week, I was leading at a Kids Camp in Collaroy. This also happened to be the week where Queensland experienced the worst of its floods. At camp we didn't have any access to TV's, Newspapers etc - heck we were with kids 24/7 and if I learned one thing it is that kids demand all of your attention, all of the time.
I missed a lot, if not all of the news, images and videos of the massive flooding in Queensland. So after arriving home, I wanted to catch up on the news and see for myself just how bad these floods were that had claimed peoples' lives. I was asking myself how could people get caught out by slowly rising water and where did all this water come from - the photos show so much water and I just couldn't work out how it got to that stage.
One of the best sources to get the latest news these days is Twitter. On there someone posted the following video. It really puts it all into perspective; how quickly the water rises from a tiny flowing creek to a gushing wall of water taking cars and debris with it. I think this video has got me up to scratch on how things got started.
