I have just returned from a 3 week trip to Canada (Whistler and Vancouver).

It has become somewhat a tradition for myself to take photos of Lego abroad but this time I wanted to try something different. Something that would require more thought and discipline.

Road trip

2011 ended with a road trip down the coast visiting many of Sydney's wonderful beaches. Bec and I made a point that we would not spend anything on accommodation. We managed to do that successfully by sleeping in my car for 3 nights at various beaches and in a tent on Hyams beach for another 3 nights.

2011 Review

2011 was a great year. There are a few things I am especially grateful for and proud of:

 I started this website

Travelled solo around London, Paris and cycled to the D-Day beaches from Bayeux

Drove around in a Skoda for a month

Joined a business partnership - Student Pigs

Embraced my last year of uni

 Spent a month in Guatemala

 Bought my first car

I am happy with everything that occured in 2011 and have high hopes for 2012.

I have already booked flights for a month snowboarding in and around Vancouver BC, leaving January 22.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas everyone.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas by Coldplay on Grooveshark

If you are looking for some nice music to play on Christmas day, Grooveshark has plenty of playlists. It's a quick and easy setup rather than sorting through a whole bunch of CDs.

Simplicity

A couple of years ago I became overwhelmed and frustrated at how busy
I had let myself become. By choice I was working full-time with long
hours while studying a Bachelor of Business at university part-time. I
was sure I wanted to be doing both: working gave me money and a purpose while studying gave me a challenge, knowledge and endless possibilities for the future.

52 suburbs

Louise Hawson explored and photographed one new Sydney suburb a week from September 2009 to October 2010. The photos on her blog attracted quite a lot of attention during the year and she eventually found herself with a lot of dedicated and supportive readers. This year, she scored her very own exhibition at the Museum of Sydney.

Chicken buses in Guatemala

Traveling around Guatemala is a great experience. One particular mode of transport over there is chicken buses.

In America, a school bus is auctioned off once it has done a certain number of miles and quite often it will be purchased by Guatemala.

Ffffound

A few years ago in 2008, I was lucky enough to receive an invite into an incredibly awesome website called Ffffound.Ffffound is an invite-only website where you can bookmark images from all over the internet for future/later reference and inspiration. Once you have ffffound enough images, the service starts recommending other images that you may like based on your current favorites.

Guatemala part 1

Guatemala City

I arrived in Guatemala almost 30 hours after departing from Australia. My travel route was Sydney > Los Angeles > Dallas > Guatemala City. That was a lot of flying and what felt like even more sitting around airports.

Safety in Guatemala

A few days before flying to Guatemala I was only able to find a handful of blogs that had positive or helpful information about the country. It was common to come across scary reports, news articles and statistics that basically described the country as a dangerous, no-go for tourists destination.

The good blog posts that I did find were very helpful and got me really
excited about visiting.
