2011 ended with a road trip down the coast visiting many of Sydney's wonderful beaches. Bec and I made a point that we would not spend anything on accommodation. We managed to do that successfully by sleeping in my car for 3 nights at various beaches and in a tent on Hyams beach for another 3 nights.
It was a great trip. One of those trips where you ask yourself "why do I and other people go overseas for holidays? Australia is b-e-a-utiful!". There is nothing like waking up in your car and opening the boot to white sand, blue sky and crashing waves.
Later in the week my sister Rachel and her husband Tom joined us camping on Hyams beach. We set up behind some shrubs as camping is forbidden on Hyams beach. We stayed there for the 3 nights including new years eve when we watched the stars, spotted Jupiter and its moons with Tom's telescope and woke up in 2012 on what is apparently the whitest sand in Australia.
Guatemala - a new country to explore and new culture to experience. We have been in Guatemala for just over one week now. During this time we have visited Guatemala City, Antigua, Panajachel and I am currently sitting in San Marcos.
I have seized many opportunities to travel abroad. Destinations have
included China, New Zealand (twice), Borneo, England and France. Each
trip has felt like a completely new experience and valuable learning
curve.
