52 suburbs Sep 19, 2011

Louise Hawson explored and photographed one new Sydney suburb a week from September 2009 to October 2010. The photos on her blog attracted quite a lot of attention during the year and she eventually found herself with a lot of dedicated and supportive readers. This year, she scored her very own exhibition at the Museum of Sydney.

I finally made it to the exhibition this week and it just happened to be Louise's final scheduled LIVE talk. She arrived at 2pm on Sunday and spent a good hour telling us the background, reason for the project and answered everyones questions. It was very inspiring listening to her talk about her passion.

She explained that it wasn't until she had a near-death experience that she started to question what she was doing with her life and decided that her current career path wasn't what she truly wanted to do. So she quit her job in advertising and started taking photos of people and places, 6-and-half days a week, 12-14 hour days, for a whole year.

She isn't doing any more talks but the exhibition is still on until October 9th so if you haven't been, I recommend it.

If you can't make it there in person, at least check out her blog and all of the photos, here!
