2011 Review Jan 04, 2012
2011 was a great year. There are a few things I am especially grateful for and proud of:
- I started this website
- Travelled solo around London, Paris and cycled to the D-Day beaches from Bayeux
- Drove around in a Skoda for a month
- Joined a business partnership - Student Pigs
- Embraced my last year of uni
- Spent a month in Guatemala
- Bought my first car
I am happy with everything that occured in 2011 and have high hopes for 2012.
I have already booked flights for a month snowboarding in and around Vancouver BC, leaving January 22. And a surfing trip in Bali, leaving in April. So 2012 is looking pretty good already but it's not just the big trips I am excited about.
It's easy to get caught up wishing one was overseas traveling and making the most of life. Big trips and traveling overseas definitely get me excited and wanting more but most my time in 2011 was spent at uni and at home. So for this reason I am hoping to find some new hobbies and continue playing with ideas so I am OK with every day life. I don't want to base my life on (and basically live for) the next big trip.
I came across a great concept on Zen Habits: "Instead of creating a list of resolutions this year, create a new habit"
I have never been a fan of new years resolutions but I am a fan of habits. They are definitely hard to start but once you get a hold of one, they are hard to stop. So if you can start a good habit, that's pretty good! For this reason and with no goals in mind for 2012, i'm aiming to develop some new helpful, productive and life changing habits; no matter how big or small.
