I have just returned from a 3 week trip to Canada (Whistler and Vancouver).
It has become somewhat a tradition for myself to take photos of Lego abroad but this time I wanted to try something different. Something that would require more thought and discipline.
I finally decided to take a photo a day for each letter in the alphabet and called the project Alphaphoto.
You can see all of the photos among my other Instragram photos here but below are some of my favourites in alphabetical order: (Aircraft, Coffee shop, Edge, Frozen, House, Isolated, Lift, Reflection, Underneath, Waterfall)
It was fun looking for a new letter every day. Of course it was hard some days but it was a great way to motivate myself to take notice of my surroundings and look carefully for things that I probably wouldn't have noticed or appreciated having not done this little project.
2011 ended with a road trip down the coast visiting many of Sydney's wonderful beaches. Bec and I made a point that we would not spend anything on accommodation. We managed to do that successfully by sleeping in my car for 3 nights at various beaches and in a tent on Hyams beach for another 3 nights.
Traveling around Guatemala is a great experience. One particular mode of transport over there is chicken buses.
In America, a school bus is auctioned off once it has done a certain number of miles and quite often it will be purchased by Guatemala.
Guatemala City
I arrived in Guatemala almost 30 hours after departing from Australia. My travel route was Sydney > Los Angeles > Dallas > Guatemala City. That was a lot of flying and what felt like even more sitting around airports.
A few days before flying to Guatemala I was only able to find a handful of blogs that had positive or helpful information about the country. It was common to come across scary reports, news articles and statistics that basically described the country as a dangerous, no-go for tourists destination.
The good blog posts that I did find were very helpful and got me really
excited about visiting.
I have seized many opportunities to travel abroad. Destinations have
included China, New Zealand (twice), Borneo, England and France. Each
trip has felt like a completely new experience and valuable learning
curve.
I love having an iPhone, especially when traveling. It's perfect in nearly every way. The one feature that I seem to be most grateful for is the ability to take decent photos.
Earlier this year I traveled to London and Paris. Along the way I was taking photos of Lego which I carried with me everywhere. Here are some of my favorite shots.
I have been home from my travels to Europe for over a month now and life has gone back to normal. I have been thinking a lot about travel lately. I really miss my time away in London and Paris.
Cyclists from all around the world have expressed their interest in this trip; I have recieved quite a few emails asking for more information. A the bottom of the page you will now find a response that I sent to the latest email i recieved. If you have further questions, please use the comments at the bottom of this page.
I went overseas quite a lot as a kid on family holidays including to places like America, Thailand, Hawaii and New Caledonia. I've also been traveling more recently, with friends, to places like New Zealand, China and Borneo. This year we had a family trip to London to see my sister get married.
I have been in London for the past few days. It has been weird seeing where my sister has been spending the past few years. My whole family is coming over for my sisters wedding in a couple of weeks.
I'm flying to London today! I'm finally getting to see my sister and where she has been living this whole time. My whole family is heading over for her wedding which is on February 19.
